  • Doctoral scholarship

Pursuant to Art. 209 of the Act of July 20, 2018 Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws, item 1668, as amended::

  1. A doctoral student without a doctoral degree shall receive a doctoral scholarship.
  2. The total period of receiving a doctoral scholarship at doctoral schools may not exceed 4 years. 
  3. To the period referred to in para. 2, the period of suspension and the period of education at the doctoral school in the case referred to in Art. 206 para 2 of the Act do not count.
  4. The monthly doctoral scholarship amounts to at least:
    1) 37% of the professor's remuneration - until the month in which the mid-term evaluation was carried out;
    2) 57% of the professor's remuneration - after the month in which the mid-term evaluation was conducted.
  5. During the period of suspension of education, the provisions on determining the maternity allowance shall apply accordingly to the determination of the amount of the doctoral scholarship, however the allowance calculation basis shall be understood as the amount of the monthly doctoral scholarship referred to in para. 4, available on the date of submission of the request for suspension.
  6. A doctoral student with a certificate of disability, a certificate of the degree of disability or the certificate referred to in Art. 5 and art. 62 of the Act of 27 August 1997 on vocational and social rehabilitation and employment of disabled persons, receives a doctoral scholarship in the amount increased by 30% of the amount indicated in para. 4 point 1.
  7. A doctoral student who submits the doctoral dissertation earlier than the date of completion of education provided for in the curriculum, receives a doctoral scholarship by the date on which the deadline for completing education expires, but not longer than for 6 months.
  8. A doctoral student may not be employed as an academic teacher or research worker. The ban does not apply to employing a doctoral student:

    1) in order to carry out a research project referred to in Art. 119 para. 2 points 2 and 3 of the Act;
    2) after the mid-term evaluation completed with a positive result, however, in the case of employment exceeding half of the full-time working time, the amount of the scholarship is 40% of the monthly amount of the scholarship referred to in para. 4 point 2;
    3) who is not eligible for a doctoral scholarship.

NOTE! In the event of a change of a surname or address, the doctoral student is obliged to request a duplicate of the doctoral student ID card.

  • Insurance

Social security insurance:

Doctoral students who have started their doctoral studies at doctoral schools are compulsorily subject to retirement, disability and accident insurance.

These persons are also subject to voluntary health insurance.

Each participant of the doctoral school receiving a doctoral scholarship is required to complete and submit to the school's office an insurance application form ZUS ZUA.

The basis for calculating social security contributions for these people is the amount of the doctoral scholarship.

Health insurance:

Pursuant to Art. 86 sec. 1 point 6 and 14 of the Act of 27 August 2004 on health care services financed from public funds (Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1510), the university running a doctoral school reports to health insurance and pays contributions for doctoral students when the persons concerned submit an appropriate declaration that they are not subject to the obligation of health insurance on a different basis.

A university running a doctoral school is exempt from the obligation to have health insurance for a student who has the status of a family member of the insured person.

  • Medical examinations

PhD students at the Doctoral Schools of AMU, who will be exposed to harmful, burdensome or hazardous factors during their studies, should, before starting the education, and during the studies, undergo medical examinations to assess the possibility of undertaking or continuing studies due to their health condition.
